The Parliament-2010 election monitoring coalition has today held its last training for observers for the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan. The training was organized in the Nizami district of Baku. The observers were informed about the mechanisms and methods of observation. Speaking at the event, Aydin Karimov, a representative of the coalition, said the civil society's participation is an important condition for ensuring transparent elections. "The holding of the elections is not the prerogative of only the officials, the civil society also should take an active part in this process. The civil society's monitoring over the voting process will increase the liability of persons responsible for conducting elections," he added. The Parliament-2010 will conduct monitoring in 80 constituencies during the Azerbaijani parliamentary elections. The coalition involved 3,400 observers in the constituencies. The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for Nov. 7. The previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. According to Karimov, the observers are not representatives of political parties. "Their main mission is to provide objective information about the election. Our observers represent the interests of the Azerbaijani people," he said. The holding of democratic elections in the country will enhance Azerbaijan's international image and strengthen its position in the international relations. The Parliament-2010 coalition intends to provide independent and impartial work of the observation mission, Karimov said. TREND
