 The police will fulfill their duties to ensure democratic, transparent elections, the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry told. "The police will perform their duties satisfactorily to ensure democratic and transparent elections," Deputy Interior Minister Oruj Zalov said during courses for district election commission (DEC) members today. "The police will promptly address serious problems." The ministry prepared a special plan of activities related to the elections on Aug. 18, he said. "Under the plan, the police will work according to a heightened regime on Nov. 5 -9," Zalov said. "The police will operate intensively to prevent unjustified interference in the exit-poll and to protect public order." Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for Nov. 7. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies. The police will protect DECs and polling stations during the elections, and also ensure the safety of foreign observers, Zalov said. The ministry will also work with the relevant state agencies to designate buildings where meetings with candidates can be held. Seminars on preparations for the elections will also be held in Baku's Narimanov district, and the Ganja, Mingechevir, Yevlakh and Khachmaz regions on Sept. 1-9, he added. Trend |
