Azerbaijan's radical opposition isolated from society, Deputy Speaker says
Azerbaijan's radical opposition isolated from society, Deputy Speaker saysThe opposition parties holding a radical position in political processes have been isolated from the Azerbaijani society, Bahar Muradova, the deputy speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, believes.
“At present the society has isolated traditional opposition, which holds a radical position concerning processes in Azerbaijan. If the opposition does not want to be isolated by the society, it should become constructive,” Muradova told journalists on 27 October.
Some Azerbaijani opposition parties refused from a radical political course after the parliamentary elections in 2005. Moreover, some opposition parties refused from a radical political position before the 15 October presidential elections and supported candidature of the incumbent President Ilham Aliyev, the chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP). The authorities stated to cooperate with political parties holding a constructive position. However, some opposition parties said that they would continue holding a previous political course.
According to Muradova, new relations have begun to be formed amongst political parties after the presidential elections.
“Political forces get an answer in line with their steps. Both, parties and people, will get an answer in line with their attitude toward social and political processes. Parties, which hold constructive position, will get an answer in line with their positions and radical ones will be isolated by the society,” the vice-speaker said.
Citizens tend to radicalism because of violation of social and economic relations, freedom of media and human rights in the society, Sardar Jalaloglu, the chairman of the opposition Azerbaijan Democrat Party, which refused from a radical political course in 2007, told Trend News.
“Should justice be established in the society and social and economic relations are regulated on the base of legislation, we can speak about isolation of radical opposition from the society. If the abovementioned facts do not exist, we cannot say that the society does not support radical opposition. Radical opposition has enough social bases and it enlarges day by day,” the chairman of the party said.
However, Jalaloglu said that his party is against radical struggle. /Trend/
