Azerbaijani CEC publishes memory books for observersThe Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan printed 30,000 memory books for the observers of the presidential elections, Head of CEC Press Service, Azer Sariyev, told TrendNews on 1 October.
Up to now, the CEC has registered more than 60 foreign and 700 local observers to observe presidential elections. The district election commissions registered more than 25,000 local observers.
Sariyev said that the books published in Azeri contain information concerning the principles of the activity of observers, their rights, undesirable actions. Observers can obtain booklets from the CEC and district election commissions.

ACSDA keeps holding events in regions
ACSDA keeps holding events in regionsThe members of the Association for Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan Election Headquarters (ACSDA EH) continue realization of the project on “Increasing of voters’ activity in presidential and municipal elections, and organization of enlightenment for fair and transparent elections” funded by the Council of State Support for NGOs under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Two significant seminars were held in Gabala and Ganja after Mingachevir, Khachmaz, Sumgayit. The head of the ACSDA EH Maharram Zulfugarli informed the participants of the meetings about the latest changes to the Election Code, proposals of Venice Commission, measures taken in regions related to the monitoring of the elections.
The ACSDA members intend to devote the other 5 events, to be held in November, December within the project, to the municipal elections of 2009.

I believe presidential elections in Azerbaijan to be held based on PACE principles: PACE PresidentThe Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) believes that the presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held in accordance with the principles of the Council of Europe. “We call upon the Government of Azerbaijan to follow the reports of the Council of Europe and therefore, I hope that the process of freeing prisoners will be continuing, the democracy will be fully established and the upcoming presidential elections will be held in accordance with the principles of the Council of Europe,” Luise Maria de Puch, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), said to press conference in Strasburg on 29 September.
PACE autumn session commenced in Strasburg on 29 September.
The PACE President said that he visited Azerbaijan this summer. “During this visit, I asked the State Head, Primer Minister and all relating structures to fulfill the reports of the Council of Europe. The PACE studied the situation with the democracy and made certain requirements to free politicians, journalists. Even I received a guarantee from the State Head regarding solution of these issues. Recently I was informed that 80 prisoners were freed,” the PACE President said. /Trend/
