“Azerbaijan Democratic Party (ADP) admits the fact of Ilham Aliyev’s reelection and the party considers it expedient to continue its constructive opposition strategy,” says the statement made at the meeting of ADP’s Management Board. According to the statement, ADP is ready for political dialogue with the authorities for the sake of solution of national problems, development of political relations and improvement of election experience.

Meeting was held between former presidential candidates – chairman of Modern Musavat Party Hafiz Hajiyev and chairman of Azerbaijan Liberal Democrat Party Fuad Aliyev. Returns of the presidential election and future activity of the parties were discussed at the meeting. It was decided to widen the relations if future political line and activity of the parties coincide.

“There is a serious need for a new political force in society and opposition,” Rauf Arifoglu, member of Musavat opposition party, editor-in-chief of Yeni Musavat, told TrendNews.
Although, Azerbaijani opposition leadership has not exhausted all opportunities and initiatives yet, opposition leadership will not leave its place so easily and fast and will not take necessary measures, Arifoglu said.

No intensive discussions dedicated to extension of the composition of the Opposition Cooperation Centre, which boycotted the presidential election in Azerbaijan, has been held.
“Now we define new goals, which meet new condition,” Arif Hajili, the head of the Musavat party Central Executive Department, told Trend News.

The opposition Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP) appealed to the European Court for human rights to restore the violated rights of the party’s activist.
In August 2007, a lawsuit was filed on Musa Rahim, activist of the Imishli region organization, in accordance with Articles 211.2.2 (hooliganism against the authorities) and 315 (rough violation of public order) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code, the party told TrendNews on 27 October.

Candidates run for October 15 presidential elections have to submit financial reports to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) within 10 days after official announcement of the election results, Head of CEC Legal Department Irada Hajiyeva told APA. The candidates have to show figures of incomes and expenditures of their election fund. The candidates gained more than 3 per cent of votes in the elections have to return not-spent part of the resources they received from the government budget within 30 days according to article 73.3 of the Electoral Code.

Hafiz Hajiyev, the former presidential candidate and chairman of the opposition Muasir Musavat party, believes that the presidential candidates’ bloc, which is planned to create, will represent a new opposition.
“A new opposition is formed in the country after the presidential elections. This opposition is capable to hold a civil struggle,” Hajiyev told Trend News.
The preliminary discussions of the issue have been already held. “As a result of the talks, which were held with several candidates, the decision to keep the issue on the agenda and continue discussions was taken,” Hajiyev added.

The opposition parties holding a radical position in political processes have been isolated from the Azerbaijani society, Bahar Muradova, the deputy speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, believes.
“At present the society has isolated traditional opposition, which holds a radical position concerning processes in Azerbaijan. If the opposition does not want to be isolated by the society, it should become constructive,” Muradova told journalists on 27 October.

Musavat Party has appealed to Baku Mayor’s Office and Supreme Court, Arif Hajili, Head of Musavat Executive Department told APA. The party appealed to Baku Mayor’s Office to hold meeting on May 4 and 18, but the Office did not allow it. Hajili stated that their appeal had not been considered by Sabail Court and Baku Appeals Court upheld the decision.
“We think to raise this issue in European Court of Human Rights,” he said.

Unity Party intends to be represented in the government. Tahir Kerimli, Chairman of the Party supported presidential candidate Ilham Aliyev during elections and therefore Unity Party wanted to be represented in the government.

Foreign Ministry of Czechia made a statement on the presidential elections held in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA that the statement highly appreciated calm election process. “Foreign Ministry of Czechia welcomes Azerbaijani government institutions’ efforts to meet the international standards in the field of democratic elections and believes that great attention will be paid to eliminate the shortcomings pointed out in the joint statement of the observers of OSCE/ODIHR, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and European Parliament,” the statement says.

Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE) Terry Davis congratulated Ilham Aliyev on his re-election as President of Republic of Azerbaijan, a source in Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representation at the Council of Europe said to TrendNews.
The letter expressed confidence that President Ilham Aliyev will carry out further reforms and make consistent efforts in the path of democracy and that this policy will be supported by CE. The Council of Europe is prepared for further cooperation, the letter read.
